Residential and commercial real estate developers and investors have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the Elizabeth line by the end of this year. Sadly, it looks like they will be waiting until autumn 2019 to be able to use the service.
This could have a knock on effect for businesses planning to open and make the most of the improved transport links and residential landlords hoping to get the top rent of their new apartments. Hopefully, the testing will be successful and the new timetable will not be subject to any further delays.
Crossrail Limited today confirmed the delay which was neded for testing in order that a "safe and reliable railway" is delivered. Services were due to begin running by December. Simon Wright, Crossrail chief executive, said: “The Elizabeth line is one of the most complex and challenging infrastructure projects ever undertaken in the UK and is now in its final stages. "We have made huge progress with the delivery of this incredible project but we need further time to complete the testing of the new railway. We are working around the clock with our supply chain and Transport for London to complete and commission the Elizabeth line.”
