This morning, BEIS announced the launch of the new Green Heat Network Fund (“GHNF”). The GHNF is a £270m capital grant programme open to public, private and third sector applicants in England and will be open to applications from April 2022 to 2025.
The scheme replaces the previous Heat Networks Investment Project (“HNIP”) but will go a stage further than its predecessor, providing capital solely for low-carbon heat technologies, such as heat pumps, solar and geothermal energy.
BEIS hope that this scheme will drive market demand for heat pump solutions, increasing scale and drive down the cost of installations of renewable heat technologies for consumers.
Finding a mix of innovative solutions to how we heat our homes in the most affordable way is going to be vital as we support people to gradually transition away from gas boilers over the next 15 years.
