Following positive feedback from employers and The House of Lords, the government has agreed to extend the adjusted Right to Work (RTW) checks brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic to 30 September 2022 (inclusive).

While a longer-term alternative to the need to provide original documents is sought by many, employers will, for at least the next 6 months, be permitted to carry out RTW checks using scanned or photographed copies of original documents together with a video call to verify a candidate’s RTW status. 

For those who cannot provide such documents, employers will continue to be able to use the Home Office Checking Service to verify RTW status. Though a video call will still be required to confirm a candidate’s identity, the simplicity of this approach will continue to appeal to many.
